Otiake Estate is a small vineyard of 11.5 hectares established in 2008 in the Waitaki Valley, South Island, New Zealand at 45° latitude. It comprises of 3 separate small blocks close to one another on the southern banks of the Waitaki River, at a low altitude 200-215 metres above sea level. The varieties are Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer.Waitaki Valley is a unique area with many similarities to the Alsace region of France – such as terrior, climate and growing grapes on the banks of the river. The north facing limestone hills here give good minerality. It is not surprising that grape varieties that grow well in Alsace also do well here too.
